Part of it was due to exhaustion, but part of it was because…it wasn’t really him anymore.
Before recording his latest LP The Other, King Tuff, a.k.a. Kyle Thomas, had to get as far away from the King Tuff wild-man/party-hearty persona as humanly possible. It was the only way for Thomas to clear his mind and evolve into a songwriting experience he’d never tried before. And this had to be a new experience on several levels. A new space, new approach, and the invigorating sensation of what he’s described as “not knowing” what would come out of this, led him toward a different frame of mind, and inspired the ten tracks that would become The Other.
King Tuff makes a stop in Austin on his current tour for a show tomorrow night at Barracuda, sharing an excellent bill that includes Cut Worms and Sasami Ashworth. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
