Don’t let the traditional New Orleans style big band sound fool ya, these guys are all Austin boys. Together, Ormide Armstrong, Luis Lopez, Rory Guice, Justin Coleman, Josh Migues, Daniel Jaimes, James Saliers, and Phillip Johnson comprise the New Orleans style brass band, Boss Street Brass Band. The group was founded in 2011 by trumpet player, Ormide Armstrong and some of his fellow marching band members from Austin’s John H. Reagan High School’s “Soul” Raider Marching Band; they’ve been makin’ people groove ever since. Their sound certainly encompasses the traditional New Orleans brass band feel, but Boss Street Brass Band keep it fresh by adding elements of heavy funk, jazz, soul, and hip hop. We’re excited to host them here just in time for Mardi Gras Thursday March 6, at 9 p.m.! Until then, check out their latest albums, Do What You Wanna (2013) and War (2013). Both are available as digital download purchases at the band’s site.
