Hikes 7.6.17

Hikes are blending hard, technical styles with home-grown folk to create a genre entirely their own and the result couldn’t be sweeter. Formed by four friends right here in Austin, the band is greatly inspired by their love of nature. Songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Nathan James Wilkins grew up at the foot of the Ozark Mountains; a backdrop that has greatly influenced his life and his music making. As a result many of Hikes tracks explore the tension between city and nature; urban noise and country quiet. Their sound is a blend of technical, math-rock beats against sweeping, folk chords; it is ethereal and emotionally wrought. Hikes’ latest release Lilt will be out later this month; the EP promises to showcase the group’s gloriously hypnotic craft. Tracks like “Habit effortlessly move from moments of introspective zen, strung through with sweet harmonies, to moments of powerful, orchestral energy. We were lucky enough to get the boys into Studio 1A ahead of their EP release show at Swan Dive. Don’t worry if you missed the session because we’ve got it right here for you! Check it out below!
