Joanna Barbera 5.16.17

Joanna Barbera has taken a break from the Nashville indie scene to visit her Austin musical roots, and she’s brought her ethereal indie folk with her. Originally from Hudson Valley, NY she spent her college years with a spiritual group in Arizona gaining appreciation for the divine and for herself. She returned to music with a sound that was powerful, raw and uniquely her own. Unafraid of intimacy in her songwriting, her new album Imago plunges the depths of her personal relationships and leaves us yearning for more. Compared to the likes of Cat Power and Elliot Smith, Joanna is bringing a new, haunting dimension to the world of indie folk. Joanna is joined in Studio 1A, and on the stage, by violinist Scarlett Deering, whose striking instrumentals can be found on her new album “There is a Moon”. The pair showed us some of their favourite tracks ahead of Joanna’s album release show at Gerladine’s. Check out the beautiful set below!
