Downtown, in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Austin, there’s a small refurbished general store sandwiched between high rise apartments and fancy bars. Radio Milk, as it is now called, is the home of Austin natives White Denim, and it’s where they recorded their 8th studio album Performance.

White Denim have perfected a sound that is somehow both juvenile and sophisticated at the same time. Their new album displays their almost paradoxical artistic vision with an album that is existential in nature, yet easy to listen to. The title Performance is intended to draw attention to “the gap that exists between what we project and who we really are” in the words of frontman James Petralli. Petralli has been with the band since its conception as the merger of his band Parque Touch with bassist Steve Terebecki’s band Peach Train. The two have been working together for over ten years and are now joined by Greg Clifford on drums and Michael Hunter on pianette (it’s a keyboard… sort of). Their music showcases vast musical knowledge and talent with Jazz, Blues, Punk, and Psychedelic influences all while having the fun of children who just want to dance and jump around.

The band is touring the country to promote their album and their youthful energy is only amplified when they play live. They’ve been called “one of the best live bands you will ever see if you live to be a million” by Time Out magazine and “The last great rock & roll band” by the Guardian and you can see them in Austin on October 26th at Mohawk. Tickets go on sale Friday September 7th 10 AM CST.
