My KUTX: Ray Wylie Hubbard

Ray Wylie Hubbard’s songs tend to cover a lot of territory, shifting between down-and-dirty rock-and-roll and open-hearted spiritual matters. He’s one of the only musicians I know of who can quote Rilke one moment and play a Lightnin’ Hopkins lick the next. Of course, Hubbard would be the first to point out that those two artists aren’t that far apart. For Hubbard, it’s all one big Texas tumbleweed that he’s been trying to untangle for the better part of half a century.

This week on My KUTX, Hubbard puts a lot of his living into his return gig as our guest DJ. He plays songs by many of the musicians who helped out on his latest album, Tell The Devil I’m Gettin’ There As Fast As I Can, as well as the inspirations behind the album’s message. Hear Ray Wylie Hubbard’s My KUTX on Saturday, October 14, 6-7 p.m. or anytime at the bottom of the page.

(P.S.: read Hubbard’s autobiography, A Life…Well, Lived. Makes a good companion piece to this episode.)
