My KUTX: Thao Nguyen

Thao Nguyen is the badass singer and guitarist for San Francisco’s Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, and for her guest DJ episode, she picked songs in chronological order, starting with her earliest musical memories and running up to the present day. In the episode, Thao remembers falling in love with country music thanks to her parents, and she also shows off her beatboxing skills, picked up from Salt-N-Pepa records.

Thao’s new album, A Man Alive–produced by her longtime friend Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs–is out now, and she’s back in town for a show at the Mohawk on April 23. Listen to Thao’s My KUTX in the player at the bottom of the page.
