Bee Caves popped onto our radar when they stopped by our Studio 1A late last year. The local band–with a name that nods to local geography, no less–opened for Sarah Jaffe, a bill that united the two artists’ love for moody atmosphere. Bee Caves use folk and Americana as starting-off points, folding in dark textures that accentuate frontman Reed Calhoun’s dramatic singing. Animals With Religion, the band’s debut EP, shows them mastering the studio as an instrument, but the songs got a jolt of energy in our Studio 1A.
