No word if this is the beginning of a full-return, so don’t brace yourself for any new Avalanches quite yet.

Take Down ISIS? Send Comedians

On the subject of taking down ISIS, Bono has spoken. The musician, famous for his outspokenness on environmental and humanitarian issues, was asked to attend a Senate subcommittee meeting yesterday, where he was asked to weigh-in on issues surrounding the Middle East and the refugee crisis. His solution to the fight against ISIS? Send comedians. His argument? Laugh at them, humiliate them, take away their power. The biggest kicker, after the meeting senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire said quote, “Actually, that’s not the first time I’ve heard experts on…countering violent extremism talk about that…It’s one of the things we’re looking at.” It certainly begs the question, “how do you turn intimidation into humiliation?”

Pop-up BYOV?

A new incarnation of the “pop-up” event phenomenon is…popping-up in the Live Music Capital. BYOV—that’s Bring Your Own Vinyl—pop-up shows. Venues like the Mohawk and Rio Rita already tote weekly BYOV nights, but other places are catching the vibes, so vinylphiles, take note and pay attention because spontaneous BYOV nights will be popping-up all over town including Spider House, the ABGB, Dog and Duck, and more. You can find the full list and the low-down on the weekly BYOV nights on our website.
