All At Once

You’ve heard your friendly neighborhood Austin Music Minute maven rave before about the chaotic noise art of Boyfrndz, that perfect marriage of technical prowess and cacophonous abandon. Speaking of glorious cacophony, they have a new album out, Breeder, produced by the band and engineered/mixed by Erik Wofford of Cacophony Recorders.

Once again, they’ve brought forth a collection of tracks that cannot be pigeonholed into any category, rushing the brain with a mixture of high-energy hooks, rhythmic complexity, earth-rattling reverb and an overall mesmerizing sound of melody descending into madness, always maintaining a complexity without getting mired in details.

The band is now a quartet with the addition of guitarist Jess Moore, and they’re celebrating the release of Breeder with a huge show presented by Vagabond Collective tonight at Red 7, 611 E. 7th St., featuring Hikes, Major Major Major, Future Death and Chipper Jones. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the AMM strongly recommends you get there early to see all of these bands. Impressive line-up. Recommended.
