Sit up and take notice. The buzz surrounding Austin-based hip-hop outfit Magna Carda is well-deserved. There’s something effortlessly cool and smooth about the flow of their grooves, most especially in the delivery of front woman Megz Kelli as she owns every single rap like so much poetic truth. It is truth. This is energy from the heart, straight to the ears.
The Austin Music Foundation-nominated Artist of the Month is also celebrating a July residency at Holy Mountain, 617 E. 7th St. You can see them perform there each Thursday night this month. Tonight’s fierce line-up includes a set by Blue the Misfit, a B-Boy set by the mighty DJ Chorizo Funk, and an Austin Mic Exchange Open Mic hosted by hip-hop artist P-Tek.
Doors open at 8 p.m. The show will most likely sell out, so get there early. Very recommended.
