And Other Beautiful Sounds

It’s not an exaggeration to refer to Loma as a supergroup of sorts. Super, and superb.

Combining the multiple talents of Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski of Cross Record and Jonathan Meiburg of Shearwater is a match made in aural aesthetic heaven, and they have the gorgeous collaborative efforts of their self-titled debut to prove it. From the breathtaking beginning of the delicate and eerie “Who Is Speaking?”, midway through the nocturnal sounds of the natural world drifting into the pulse of “Relay Runner,” and right up to the dramatic hushed ending of the album’s final soul-burner “Black Willow,” Loma has crafted a wondrous and immersive work.

Does it sound like the Austin Music Minute is smitten? Absolutely. Don’t miss Loma’s performance tonight at The North Door, 502 Brushy St., with songwriter Jess Williamson opening the show. Doors at 9 p.m. This one comes very recommended.
