Back At the Bar

You may have heard about the big show tonight with Sacramento dance punk outfit !!! (Chk Chk Chk) and Houston pop brigade Wild Moccasins at Red 7. But your Austin Music Minute maven insists you get there early to catch the mighty Sally Crewe, who is starting out tonight’s festivities. It’ll be worth your while to get this awesome pop-rock in your system.

Crewe, an Austin-based songwriter by way of the UK, made a smashing debut with her band  The Sudden Moves on Drive It Like You Stole It (2003), featuring contributions by none other than Britt Daniel and Jim Eno (Spoon). Although the album was recorded in England, the Austin vibes were already creeping into the works. She’s done various other great collaborations over the years, but this EP features Crewe in best solo efforts with four original tracks (“Sooner or Later” is featured on today’s AMM) and an excellent cover of one of XTC‘s best songs, “Making Plans For Nigel.”

Tonight, make sure you don’t miss Sally Crewe at Red 7, 611 E. 7th St. Doors open at 9 p.m. Very recommended.
