Birds In the Night

There is something infinitely satisfying about having one’s anticipation being met by instant gratification. That is the case with Austin-based songwriter Benjamin Cissner‘s long-awaited debut, Birds In the Night. This stirring album is a bit tough to categorize; rock is too broad a term, as would be pop, but it’s beautifully immersed in both while mesmerizing with waves of haunted folk.

Many of Cissner’s admirers are quick to agree that he’s one of Austin’s best kept secrets, but with the album’s April 22 release, the secret will soon be out. Fortunately, some of us will not have to wait until then; Cissner is presenting an early album-release show tonight at Barracuda, 611 E. 7th St. Julian Neel and Lincoln, NE roots band Kill County are also on the bill, with headliner Rattlesnake Milk. Doors at 9 p.m. This one comes very recommended.
