…Cuidado con El Mirador…
Throughout their decades-long career, Calexico founders Joey Burns and John Convertino have remained true to their Southwestern roots, and that deep reverence burns throughout their tenth full-length studio release, El Mirador. The opening title track, and killer rips like “Cumbia del Polvo,” are layered with cumbia, conjunto and mariachi influences, and guest appearances by Gaby Moreno and songwriter/guitarist Jairo Zavala (Depedro).
El Mirador is spectacular, but, as you heard on their recent Studio 1A performance, you need to see Calexico’s live show. Catch them tonight, Wednesday June 15, at the Scoot Inn, E. 1308 4th St. Doors open at 6 p.m.
