Come Rain or Shine

Leave it to the unpredictable Texas weather to unleash rainclouds at full volume today, the second day of UtopiaFest 2013. The festival grounds are located in Utopia, TX, about three hours southwest of Austin, so chances are the rain is steadily traveling through. But, as quickly as the rain arrived, it may just as quickly dissipate. In any case, the show must go on! With all festival-goers resplendent in their fabulous DIY rain gear, or (intentional) head-to-toe mud ensemble, depending upon personal preference, of course.

The big event technically began yesterday, with a special pre-party show on the festival grounds with EOTO, Holiday Mountain, My Russian Princess and The Bellmen. Festival organizers say they designed UtopiaFest for music lovers who don’t necessarily want to attend music festivals and might prefer something more intimate. They’ve managed to hit the nail right on the head with a solid line-up of local and nationally-known artists, including Ume, Holiday, Max Frost, Blackalicious, !!! (chk chk chk), Ghosts Along the Brazos, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, Galactic and many others. Be sure to visit the UtopiaFest website for the complete schedule. The music starts at 4 p.m. today, and again at noon tomorrow.

Take those rain parkas and designer galoshes. Bring that extra tent and some spare towels. You know you’ll have a blast. Recommended.
