He nearly gave up music. But the creative desire and curiosity brought him back where he belongs.

David Ramirez album release show tonight at C-Boy’s, with Kelley Mickwee.

David Ramirez had just about had enough.

A few of years ago, Ramirez seriously considered leaving music. An 18-year career boasting six gorgeous albums, four EP’s, and countless shows would possibly not even culminate with a grand finale. He felt he no long identified with the young songwriter who first set out with so many dreams, ambitions, and the passion that kept it going. That person was gone.

Fortunately, the encouragement and inspiration of close friends and family reawakened Ramirez’s creative spirit. He rediscovered his love of music, and its rebirth is marked by his wondrous new LP, All The Not So Gentle Reminders, “a love letter to my younger self thanking him for the life I am now lucky enough to lead,” he said recently on his Instagram. “I was reintroduced to that kid who had big dreams and he pushed me to be more creative and curious than I ever thought I could.”

The new album is out today, and to celebrate, Ramirez performs tonight at C-Boy’s, sharing the bill with songwriter Kelley Mickwee. The show starts at 10 p.m., but get there early for a set by Jo Alice and Alicia Gail at 6:30 p.m.
