Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas III are the founding members of Brooklyn-based band Widowspeak. However, their recent album, Expect the Best, features Widowspeak performing as a four-piece with bassist Willy Muse and drummer James Jano. The added richness to the darkened layers does not disappoint. As if wandering through a shadowy daydream bathed in twilight, Expect the Best presents a lush, beautiful, slow-burning tapestry of emotions. Specifically for songwriter Hamilton, the album is a deeply autobiographical self-examination of the anxiety that comes from feeling adrift.
This was an instant Austin Music Minute favorite. Head out to The Sidewinder, 715 Red River, to see Widowspeak perform tonight at an early show. Doors are open now, and Chicago lo-fi rockers Clearance start the evening out. Very recommended.
