Those of us in the know appreciate the full-throttle energy and incredible talent of Residual Kid. We don’t bat an eye when the youthful trio takes to the stage. We know what’s in store. Still…it’s a sort of guilty pleasure when you spot people in the crowd who haven’t seen them perform yet and are taken aback by their ages. Guitarist and lead vocalist Deven Ivy is 15, as is drummer Ben Redman. Bassist and vocalist Max Redman is 13. Unsuspecting audience members might glance bemusedly and think, “Aw. How cute.”
Then, they start to play.
Even at the first song, jaws drop and people take notice. This band rocks hard. And if you’re still one of the ones who hasn’t had the pleasure of seeing them live, you can do so tonight at Beerland, 711 Red River. Rounding out the bill are two dude who play QUITE loud, Carl Sagan’s Skate Shoes; punk brigade The Stuffies and hardcore outfit User Error. Doors open at 9 p.m. Do not leave your earplugs at home. Recommended.
