Final Free Week Shows Today

In phrasing I learned from Eddie Izzard, I must admit Free Week has left me a bit knackered. That would be tired, or in my case, completely exhausted, what with all the gigantic shows that Free Week has offered during the past several days.

If you haven’t caught any of the Free Week gigs (although I can hardly imagine how you’ve missed any), there is still time! Today, Saturday, is the last day, and there is hardly a shortage of free shows to check out. I have one selection that should help out a bit, or even give you a starting point if you’re going to be running about town (as I have) to see different shows.

Local quartet TV Torso, formed by Matt Oliver and Jordan Johns following the break-up of Sound Team, released the incredibly addictive hook-laden Clear Lake Strangler last year. Each song – the title track, “Prismatic Ideation” and most especially “No Idea Why” – are all stellar examples of the perfect marriage between superb recording techniques and excellent songwriting. Infectious.

There should be a new album coming out soon. In the meantime, it would be wise to see TV Torso play tonight at a Free Week show at Red 7, 617 E. 7th St., on the outdoor stage. And once again, make way for another outrageously great line-up: Oh No Oh My, Hundred Visions and Tiger Waves. But don’t forget the indoor stage, starring Camp Xray, Trip Crystals, Featherface, and Animal. Unleash the rock. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Yep. My brain just exploded. Recommended. Cheers to a fantastic Free Week this year.
