It initially felt like a letdown to check the calendar to find that Halloween would be…on a Monday.
Monday. Gross.
Halloween is typically a night of over-the-top costumed revelry embraced by adults as much as children, if not more so. But anyone with a job requiring normal-people hours cannot party with abandon on a Monday night. What’s a boo to do? Well, all the beasts and ghouls in the know have planned a plethora of parties for this weekend. Your Austin Music Minute maven has two big recommendations to start your fright night off right:
-Thirteen is the lucky number, fiends. The White Ghost Shivers are celebrating 13 years of presenting their much-beloved annual White Ghost Shivers Ball, and this year the party takes over the White Horse, 500 Comal. The evening begins with a set by Roger Wallace at 10 p.m., and includes a performance by The Saddle Sores (yeeeeeeouch!) at the witching hour. The WGS gang will rattle your bones to the core. Costumes are encouraged, because the Shivers always bring it, and then some.
-You may have experienced the unrepentant rowdiness of Wild Bill and The Lost Knobs, or perhaps you may even be a longtime fan, going back to his days of shaking up the locals at Flipnotics. Your AMM host has it on good authority that Bill and his fellow hoodlums know how to throw a party, and Halloween is especially ripe with opportunities for a spine-tingling good time. That’s why they’re presenting the Wild Bill and The Gorey Holes (heh heh) Halloween Bash tonight at The Blackheart, 86 Rainey St. They’ve invited friends Magical Spacecat to start the night out at 9:45 p.m. and Unfaithful Servants to put the fear into you at midnight.
And a frighteningly good time will be had by all. Recommended.
