Here are pages of an open book that’s still being written. The story emerged when 20-year-old Austin-based songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker Ginger Rodriguez made her musical debut at age 17 with I’m Crying In A Cool Way. The fearlessness in Rodriguez’s vulnerability leaves you anticipating the next chapter.
Last April, she released the follow-up, Melancholy, continuing her personal examination of identity, trauma and healing. “I need to find a better way to cope than cut my brain,” Rodriguez sings on the LP’s title track. “No one could love me if they know who I’ve been…when they don’t call me ginger they call me melancholy…”
Rodriguez has a show tonight, Tuesday Feb. 8, at Meanwhile Brewing Company, sharing a bill with Sneaky Peaches and The Fuzz. The music starts at 7 p.m.
