Tomorrow would have been David Bowie‘s 70th birthday. This weekend, many artists are celebrating the music of the songwriter we lost far too soon with shows all over the world. In our little corner of the planet, Austin musicians are tying in a spectacular Bowie birthday bash with a most worthy cause.
Ground Control: A David Bowie Birthday Celebration features an all-star line-up of local artists playing their favorite Bowie songs. This is one hell of a list: Kevin Russell of Shinyribs, James Petralli of White Denim, Lizzy Lehman of Carry Illinois, John Dowey of Think No Think, Cella Blue of the White Ghost Shivers, Wild Bill and Amanda, Michael Booher, and many others will perform in this massive tribute tonight at The ABGB, 1305 W. Oltorf. Proceeds from the show benefit the SIMS Foundation, which provides access and financial support for mental health and addiction recovery for Austin music professionals and their families.
