HAAM Benefit Day got an early start today, as it does each year, with a brilliant 6 a.m. kick-off at Whole Foods downtown by Austin Music Minute fave Mayeux & Broussard. If ever you wondered what it was like waking up to a country cyclone, that would be your answer.
The annual citywide celebration was created by the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians as a fundraiser for continued access to affordable health care for Austin’s low-income working musicians. Local music artists play benefit shows at various venues and hot spots around town throughout the day, and local participating businesses donate a percentage of the day’s sales, all in support of HAAM.
Here are a handful of recommendations for HAAM Benefit Day shows this evening: The Octopus Project will do an instore performance at 7 p.m. at Waterloo Records; Sara Sharp performs at The Elephant Room; The Peterson Brothers perform at Whole Foods Downtown; Moving Panoramas is on the bill at Hotel Vegas; A. Sinclair and The Zoltars are on the bill at Barracuda; Bidi Bidi Banda, Julian Acosta and She, Sir play at The ABGB; James McMurtry (featured on today’s AMM) performs at The Continental Club Gallery; and there’s a show at The Volstead that includes Magic Rockers of Texas and Kathryn Legendre on the line-up.
Pay a visit to the HAAM website for a complete schedule with performance times, and a list of participating businesses. Thanks so much for your support.
