Austin-based trio Hand Signals may well be a new band on the scene, but consider the guys’ impressive background that backs up the doses of heavy instrumental rock. Guitarist Austin Kalman and drummer Jake Perlman previously electrified audiences as part of the now-defunct rock outfit LIONS, originally formed in 2005 with singer Matt Drenik (Battleme) and bassist Trevor Sutcliffe. Hand Signals guitarist Jeff Black also pulls guitar duty with The Devil Rides. So, to summarize, each are focused on creating all-around heavy sounds, basically music that’s not for wimps.
Speaking of badassery, Hand Signals are unleashing the ear-splitting volumes tonight at Beerland, 711 1/2 Red River. It’s another awesome bill featuring fellow heavy rockers Hollow Trees and songwriter/Pleasant Grove co-founder Marcus Striplin‘s psyched-up solo project, Margaret Chavez.
Doors at 8 p.m. Recommended for your Monday-night unwind. It’s good for ya.
