Heart Pop

Johnny Goudie is a master pop artist. An artiste, if your humble Austin Music Minute host may continue to be so bold, who so thoughtfully wields the infectious melodies and heart-achingly perfect lyrics that seem to hit you at just the right moment. And don’t restrict these sensations to only the love songs – which Goudie also crafts well, by the way. Every sentiment, every bit of soul-searching, comes from a musician whose prolific career allows him such insight.

Your AMM host has been addicted to his music not only since the days of his band Goudie (the title track to I Love Elke had frequent spins on my former Friday late-night show days of the KUT 90.5 era), but also Mr. Rocket Baby. And now, enter the most recent release, the deliciously lovelorn classic rock/pop EP Leper Hands. Somehow, in the midst of hosting his podcast How Did I Get Here?, performing more than a hundred shows per year with multi-talented cover band SKYROCKET!, and collaborating and performing with literally dozens of other fantastic musicians (Kathy Valentine, Colin Gilmore), Goudie found the time to piece together another awesome pop gem.

Hear for yourself when you see Johnny Goudie perform tomorrow night at One-2-One Bar, 1509 S. Lamar Blvd. And this is one hell of a band he’s got with him: John Chipman, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Sean Crooks and Jaimee Harris. Daaamn. Hearts in the eyes. The music starts at 8:30 p.m. Better yet, get there earlier for Robin Mordecai at 6 p.m.

Very recommended, and sealed with a kiss.
