Who: The road ahead is a long one. Best take some of this music along with you. A tip o’ the hat to Alpine, TX-based songwriter Anthony Ray Wright, who released I’ll Travel On last year. Your ears are met with the unmistakably weary and worldly-wise croon of a road-worn wanderer. This storyteller’s destiny is to keep on moving. Wright mixes bare-bones bluegrass and old-time country that reverently follows the dark spirit of Hank Williams in a style that Wright describes as “Dixie-fried rocky tonk.” Just serve it up with a side of whiskey. Actually, the whiskey just may be the main course.
What: Wright is starting a residency at Hotel Vegas, 1500 E. 6th St.
When and Where: You can see him perform there tonight, along with songwriter Corey Baum. The music begins at 9 p.m. Take a swig and lose your heart. Recommended.
