High Volume Howl

Your humble Austin Music Minute maven can only wonder what it must’ve been like for The Ghost Wolves to work on their new album with legendary producer extraordinaire Gordie Johnson at Arlyn Studios. No doubt the volume was high, amps were thudding and buzzing with merciless fuzz, and the ghost wolf spirit swept through at full force. This is the power of a two-person band that thunders like a chorus of dirty blues-rock gods rattling the ribcage and exploding eardrums at unheard of decibels.

Carley and Jonny originally met in 2007 at a music fest, and started playing together in 2010. Their 2011 debut EP In Ya Neck! flashed a mighty set of musical fangs, crossing swampy delta blues with garage and roots. Now those razor-sharp fangs sink even deeper into your ears with the Wolves’ debut LP, Man, Woman, Beast. Sultry, sizzling and seductive, it’s the kind of album you have to play loudly because there ain’t no other way.

The Ghost Wolves are having their record release show tonight at Holy Mountain, 617 E. 7th St. Talk about an awesome bill, baby: The Sour Notes, BLXPLTN and Mellowphant, with DJ Dads spinning between sets. Doors open early at 7 p.m. Make a night of it. Recommended.
