Preachers, My Jerusalem‘s second full-length release, is a phenomenal album, not only the band’s best so far but a standout in its own right. Period. The sound is much darker compared to Gone For Good or their EP Feathers. Its intensity pushes it further into an abyss where primitive emotion resides, something animalistic barely held together at times by the faintest restraint. Front man Jeff Klein‘s voice encapsulates it all with whisper-like croons that pierce the silence one minute, then guttural screams that tear everything apart the next.

The past few years have been packed with non-stop tour dates around the world, including opening slots for Peter Murphy and X. Now, they’ve had a moment or two to tap on the breaks and work on new music. A few surprises are in store, which will be announced soon, and it looks like a few Texas shows are on their schedule before the year ends.

My Jerusalem is very stoked to play a hometown show tonight at Empire Control Room, 606 E. 7th St., sharing the bill with local trio Blue Healer. An excellent line-up at a great venue. Doors open at 9 p.m. Very recommended.
