So fairly recently, Mohawk co-founder and Guerilla Suit proprietor James Moody teamed up with Franklin Barbeque badass Aaron Franklin for a special My KUTX segment to celebrate Hot Luck Fest 2018.
Geez. Talk about a face-melting episode. And all that rawk they played pretty much nailed the vibe – Hot Fest brings it damn hot, and that includes the scorching temps from all the awesome music. Hot Luck creators Moody and Franklin wanted the festival to not necessarily feel like a festival, but more like a huge gathering with excellent food and live music performances to match.
Hot Luck kicks off with a set of shows tonight that include Annabelle Chairlegs (featured on today’s AMM), Christian Bland and The Revelators, The Sun Machine and Bitter Leaves at Hotel Vegas, 1502 E. 6th St.; recent Studio 1A guests The Texas Gentlemen and songwriter Jonathan Terrell at The White Horse, 500 Comal; and Hot Snakes with AMM fave Drakulas at the Mohawk, 912 Red River.
Hot Luck continues tomorrow night with Galactic and Los Coast at the Mohawk; Twin Peaks with SMiiLE at Barracuda, 611 E. 7th St.; and Third Man Records artist Joshua Hedley at Antone’s, 305 E. 5th St. On Saturday night, you can catch El Tule at Hotel Vegas, and Okkervil River and Benjamin Lazar Davis at the Mohawk; and DJ Questlove takes over the Mohawk on Sunday night.
