All right. So, music fans come to expect certain styles/sounds/things from their favorite artists. Fine. Fair enough. But there are some definite standouts who consistently deliver awesome stuff without conforming to expectations. Can’t even imagine what exactly it is that Parquet Courts reviewers would necessarily be expecting, but the band has once again gleefully thrown another wrench into any sort of presumptions with the off-kilter, multi-flavored Human Performance. Even Pitchfork, singing the praises of Parquet Court’s relevance and nonconformity, raves about the intelligence, humor, and earnestness on their latest release. And rightly so.
Parquet Courts are back in Austin for a show tonight presented by KUTX and End of An Ear at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the outdoor stage. Doors open at 7 p.m., and US Weekly starts the night out. The Parquet Courts afterparty on the inside stage features Ssleeperhold and Dope Dungeon. All making Monday a hell of a lot better. Recommended.
