In Your Own Language

All it took was the first listen to the album /ba:’brook/, and your Austin Music Minute maven was hooked. Aimee Bobruk steps straight out of a dream, but keeps those vivid, surreal images fresh in your mind so you don’t forget them. From there, she creates her own interpretation and images of it all. At least, that’s what it feels like.

Try as one might, it’s not enough to describe with mere words what Bobruk does with her music, but the sensations are very real. She connects ideas that wouldn’t ordinarily seem connected. It feels like a flowing abstract, an image that ignites your mind when you finally step away from it to look with a more open mind. Each composition is avant-garde folk with a concentration of Bobruk’s punk rock roots intertwined with vibrant creativity. AMM has declared this before, but it bears repeating: Bobruk is genuinely an artist of great depth and sincerity, exquisiteness, poetry and unconventionality. She’ll leave you quite smitten.

Make plans to see Aimee Bobruk at a special performance tonight at The Swan Dive, 615 Red River. She’s invited songwriter Lex Land  to perform (10 p.m.), along with artist and musician Dony Wynn‘s incredible project Knuckle Yummy (11 p.m.), which defies description. Bobruk will play at midnight. Truly an extraordinary experience all around. Highly recommended.
