Jam For the People

Who: If you don’t know by now, please allow your friendly neighborhood Austin Music Minute maven to introduce you. Austin Music People (AMP) advocates on behalf of Austin’s musicians, bands and individuals working in the local music scene that truly make Austin the Live Music Capital of the World. AMP shows local and state lawmakers how vital the music scene is, and works to eliminate the disconnect between the local music scene – the very essence of our city, the very thing that has gotten us worldwide attention and brings in revenue – and the community at large.

What: AMP once again presents United We Jam, a two-night live music and voter registration event to maintain awareness of local music’s importance, and to educate voters on issues affecting the music community. AMP volunteers are on hand to register new voters or update voter info, and to provide information about how you can get involved with AMP.

When: It’s happening tonight and tomorrow night, a huge local artist extravaganza that includes Mother Falcon, Holy Wave (featured on today’s AMM), Magna Carda, Emily Wolfe, Residual Kid, Otis the Destroyer, Roger Sellers, the McMercy Family Band and many, many more.

Where: Several venues and nightspots are participating this year, including Hotel Vegas, Mohawk, Beerland, The Blackheart, Carousel Lounge, Empire Control Room, Holy Mountain, The Grackle, The Liberty, The White Horse, The Brixton… Geez, it’s a long list! You can visit Do512’s United We Jam page for details and schedules.

Why: Keeping local music alive and thriving means keeping Austin alive and thriving. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Make your voice heard.
