Here’s what you need to do, if you haven’t done so already: Take some time to explore the sights and sounds of the Austin Music Map, a collaboration between KUTX and the community highlighting endless wonderful musical moments and experiences happening throughout the city. The Music Map features an interactive website of musical footage and images captured by KUTX and music fans alike that you can click on, watch and listen to. And really, when you get down to brass tacks, it’s yet another Austin gem that shows the incredible talent we have in our city.
Once again, the Map brings it all out, live and in person, with MAPJAM 2014, a daylong fest showcasing a perfect mix of this talent in a variety of cool locations in East Austin. It all kicks off at noon at Hops & Grain Brewery, 507 Calles St., with The Carper Family, then wraps up at the end of the day with Bodyrock ATX at the Historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St., at 10 p.m. Follow the schedule to catch all the bands playing in between: Latasha Lee & The Black Ties (featured on today’s Austin Music Minute), Growl, Hard Proof Afrobeat, Money Chicha, the Urban Achievers Brass Band and Magna Carda.
All these shows are free. That’s…free. Hello?! Get on out and enjoy. Recommended.
-Special thanks to MAPJAM curator Haley Howle for all her help and hard work.
