Long Story Short

Today’s Austin Music Minute feature is a bit of a personal one for your humble AMM host. Songwriter Jim Ward is from El Paso, TX, which is also your AMM host’s hometown. And there’s plenty of pride over this homeboy. Not only was he the guitarist for post-rock ragers At the Drive In, and front man for Sparta following ATDI’s split, Ward continues to push himself outside of any creative boundaries by producing outstanding work with current band Sleepercar (the track “Long Story Short” from the EP Breathe & Count is featured on today’s AMM), and as a solo artist.

In addition to these musical accomplishments, Ward is one of the founding collaborators of the Tembloroso Creative Lab, which promotes El Paso artists and musicians, owner of El Paso music venue Tricky Falls and its sister bar Bowie Feathers, and co-owner of cafe Eloise with wife Kristine Ward. No doubt this all fills up Ward’s days twenty-four/seven, but there’s always time for the music.

Hear for yourself. Sleepercar is in Austin for a show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage, with Lonely Life sharing the bill at 10 p.m. Their sets follow the Copeland show on the outside stage with Eisley and We Are the City. Doors for that show open at 6:30 p.m.

Pretty great night at the ‘Hawk tonight. So recommended.
