Middle Kids‘ latest release, Lost Friends, their first full length following their much-acclaimed self-titled debut EP, is one wonderful example of seemingly contrasting things working so well together. It’s an album that sounds undeniably vibrant, rich and downright jubilant at times, while simultaneously focusing lyrically on varying degrees of insecurity and embarrassment. And it all connects brilliantly, in addition to Hannah Joy’s outstanding vocals (Joy’s singing was a knockout during the Sydney trio’s Studio 1A performance).
Middle Kids plays tonight at Antone’s, 305 W. 5th St., with Austin pop-rockers Duncan Fellows opening the show. Doors at 7 p.m., and the music kicks off at 8 p.m. Very recommended.
