The summer of 2015 was a breaking point for Jolie Cota Flink. Worn down by health issues and crumbling relationships, Flink turned to writing the songs that led to the debut of Mean Jolene, and their first album, Salty. Putting that roller coaster trip into music was the ultimate release – grit, open wounds, unmasked bitterness and all, but never extinguishing the light on the horizon. Follow-up Try Harder (2019) raises the power pop levels to shredder mode, digging further beneath the badass veneer into the affairs of the heart with a clearer mind.
Flink happens to be celebrating a birthday this week with an awesome show at Hotel Vegas. The line-up includes Mean Jolene, TV’s Daniel, Berkshire Hounds, and Nick Allison and the Players Lounge. Catch the birthday shindig tonight, Wednesday March 9. Doors at 8:30 p.m., and the music starts at 9:30 p.m.
