Your friendly neighborhood Austin Music Minute maven had the opportunity to see The Baker Family for the first time at an intimate show hosted by Lord Buffalo at their home studio, The Castle. The room was charged with their electricity. Husband and wife Stu and Liz Baker are mesmerizing, charismatic performers, and the band’s brand of contagious dancey pop won me over from the start.
This year, I got word from Liz that the band has a new name, Young Tongue, and brand new music in store. They’ve just released a single, “Cat Calls” (featured on today’s AMM), as a special preview of their upcoming full-length, Death Rattle, due for release this summer. Make plans to check out Young Tongue at their single release show tonight at Red 7, 611 E. 7th St. All great local bands on the bill: Hikes, Residual Kid and The Del-Vipers. Doors open at 9 p.m. Sounding better than ever. Very recommended.
