Songwriter and artist Emily Beanblossom made her way from Olympia, WA to Austin, trading cooler climes for…well, summers from hell, basically. Her days spent indoors by the window air conditioner unit gave her ample time to build the foundation of her musical project Ruby Fray‘s follow up to the debut Pith. All the new surrounding influences, and perhaps the intense summer heat, fueled the fire on the aptly named Grackle, an exceptional collection of wonderfully moody compositions that delight with a dark aesthetic, a nocturnal vision brewing psych folk and ghostly images.
Tonight, Ruby Fray is joining the bill for Devin James Fry and the Name Sayers residency show at Stay Gold, 1910 E. Cesar Chavez. The music starts at 9 p.m. A superb double bill that is very recommended.
