One Last Ride, Babe

It’s as though we’re no longer surprised by the news of another venue or music space closing down. Saddened, extremely depressed, maybe outraged…but not surprised. Still, the closing of The Blackheart is about as heartbreaking as you could get. The cozy hot spot at 86 Rainey St., an oasis located right smack dab in the middle of chaos, is closing its doors at the end of the month. But that doesn’t mean the place is shutting down quietly.

Oh nooo, honey. The Blackheart is heading out with a heavy-handed bang. Like Jake Bugg – holding up two fingers to the utter ridiculousness. I’m sure you know which two fingers.

One farewell show is being presented tonight by my friend and colleague John Laird of music blog Side One Track One: Last Ride at The Blackheart features sets by Ume (featured on today’s Austin Music Minute), Quiet Company, BLXPLTN, Basketball Shorts, Darkbird and Booher. Doors at 8 p.m.

One hell of a send-off. And one of several goodbye parties to come. Very recommended.
