Party Plaid

Davy Jones is a legend.

Any musician who’s played with as many bands as he has, been active in the Austin music scene over 35 years, toured like a madman, and twice been voted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame with both the Hickoids and The Dicks is worthy of vast praise, indeed. At the very least, all due respect to an individual who’s done so much and lived to tell the tale with a grin. You can’t miss Jones when you see him; your eyes may well be accosted by the barrage of multi-colored plaids and patterns of his ensemble, and his outspoken nature will not be silenced. He’s greatly revered for a damn good reason. His influence is far-reaching. Bottom line: The guy’s a badass.

Last year, Jones was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, which abruptly halted plans for a European tour with the Hickoids because he had to start radiation and chemo treatments. But the man will not be stopped! To help him cover medical costs, family, friends and band mates have put together a gigantic tribute show and fundraiser called Plaidstock, a perfect name referencing his fabulous wardrobe. The bill features sets by The Next, Locos Gringos, The Beaumonts, The Offenders, the Hickoids (well, duh), and many more.

Plaidstock starts at 3 p.m. today and lasts through tonight at the Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe. There will also be a raffle and silent auction, and you can check the Plaidstock Facebook event page for details and set times. A most worthy cause and great music.

You rock, Davy. It’s as simple as that.
