Prosthesis

Before Mind Spiders spun into play as a side project, The Marked Men were making their mark on Denton’s punk scene. Before then, vocalist/guitarist Mark Ryan and each of his band mates had previously played in a bunch of other like-minded bands, all of which collectively added up to an impressive punk rock history. Those roots remain solidly with Mind Spiders to this day, but the band goes in many different directions – punk, pop, kraut rock, garage, psych – and does it well.

Mind Spiders proves it again with their fourth LP, Prosthesis, coming out March 12 on Dirtnap Records. Just imagine the seemingly contradictory pairing of punk with the pre-programmed, staccato synth beats pounding away as the band rocks out with improvisational abandon. Damn awesome.

Dirtnap Records has Mind Spiders on their official SXSW 2016 showcase line-up on March 17th, but the band is in town for a show tonight at Barracuda, 611 E. 7th St. Manhunt and Endless Youth are also on the bill, along with Jared Leibowich (The Zoltars) celebrating the release of his new solo LP, Welcome Late Bloomers. Doors at 9 p.m. Recommended.
