Psych Meld

The Halfways‘ frontman Daniel Fernandez made it clear from the beginning: His band wasn’t just coming from one genre. You’ve heard the Austin Music Minute raving about the different layers found within their trippy psych grooves, like full-on rock, funk, a bit of prog paired with pop. Fernandez started The Halfways with guitarist Alejandro Facusse in their hometown of Miami, a city with a booming electronic music scene. Putting a band together that wasn’t in that vein wasn’t necessarily a challenge for Fernandez, who finds inspiration in many different types of music. That’s exactly what fuels The Halfways now, incorporating the best of several genres.

Don’t miss out on The Halfways’ tour kickoff show tonight at Hotel Vegas, 1502 E. 6th St., sharing the bill with Hollow Trees, Detroit psych-rockers Moonwalkers, and Austin band Tinnarose.

You need to get there now. Very recommended.
