The Austin Music Minute wants to let you in on something awesome: Songwriter/musician Monique Ortiz rocks the bass like no other. She draws something out of it that’s so primal, so guttural, so heavy and seductive that it stands on its own. When the Boston native moved to Austin six years ago and began collaborating with multi-instrumentalist Michael Howard, the excellent match-up of sultry bass and rich beats evolved into the darkly seductive, no-nonsense sound of Alien Knife Fight. Can something be simultaneously menacing and alluring? Of course. You have proof with the dynamic duo’s latest track, “Some Girls,” recently featured as the KUTX Song of the Day and on today’s AMM.
Alien Knife Fight continues their musical residency at The Carousel Lounge, 1110 E. 52nd St., with a show tonight, starting at 10 p.m. They’ll be joined by a special guest. But whom? You have to go to find out. Very recommended.
