Such A Night

Five years ago, in the intimate setting of one of Austin’s most beloved and well-known venues, songwriter Ben Ballinger performed a solo set of some of his best works from his then forthcoming album, The State I’m In, and from some earlier releases. Your humble Austin Music Minute host had featured Ballinger on the AMM on more than one occasion, thanks to stand-outs like “Rise and Run” and “Astoria” from his 2011 release, Fabrication.

So, this night in particular in 2013, was a special occasion. Nerve-wracking? Just a bit. Ballinger was pouring out his musical heart, live and in person, at the Cactus Café.

That evening’s performance was recorded, but only now will the recording be made available to the public on a new EP. Join Ballinger for the EP release show tonight at the place where it all started, the Cactus Café. The ever-awesome Carson McHone opens the show. Doors at 8 p.m., music starts at 8:30; get there early, because the room fills up quickly. This is one you won’t want to miss. Recommended.
