True Country

Who: How’s this for receiving great news? Songwriter, vocalist and musician Emily Herring returned from a Swedish tour, and a residency at McMenamin’s Crystal Hotel in Portland, Oregon, to discover that she received a nomination for the 2015 Ameripolitan Award for Outlaw Female Artist of the Year. And rightly so. Herring knows that “if it ain’t worth sayin’, it ain’t worth singin’.” The Texas native is an outstanding artist with a genuine country sound, which also carries Western swing, Tejano, and Southern blues influences. Just hearing her distinctive voice lets you know she isn’t holding anything back.

What: Today’s Austin Music Minute recommends the perfect opportunity to see Herring perform in the perfect honky tonk setting.

When and where: Tonight at The White Horse, 500 Comal St., at midnight. Jacob Jaeger starts out the night at 8 p.m., followed by Devin Jake at 10 p.m. So recommended.
