United Through Music

A show scheduled for tonight at the Mohawk, featuring The Blind Pets, The Wolf, Casual Strangers and Residual Kid, was originally conceived as a benefit for the Austin Child Guidance Center. But, as it often the case in life, something horrible and unexpected completely changed the course of plans. Everyone was left in shock.

Family and friends of the victims of the tragedy that occurred Wednesday night during SXSW, as well as staff members of many Red River and downtown music venues, and the people who frequent them, were devastated. However, the local music community is committed to helping those affected. SXSW initialized SXSW Cares, through which people can make a donation to help the surviving families and victims. In addition, everyone involved with the Austin Child Guidance Center benefit decided that their show would be a double benefit, with a share of the proceeds going to SXSW Cares.

The show happens tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Doors open at 8 p.m. If you’re unable to attend, you can visit the websites for ACGC and SXSW Cares to show your support. On behalf of the Austin Music Minute and KUTX 98.9 FM, thank you very much.
