It’s a bit of an understatement, but you really do have a busy weekend ahead of you. It’s a flurry of music fest excitement, and it’s not only coming at you with the first weekend of ACL Fest activities, but also with a fantastic line-up of local and touring artists featured at UTOPiAfest 2016.
Kicking off Thursday and continuing through Sunday in Utopia, TX, about three hours outside of Austin, UTOPiAfest keeps things decidedly cozy and intimate, as far as music festivals are concerned. Attendance is capped to only 2,000, with an abundance of badass live music on two stages. Thao and The Get Down Stay Down, White Denim, Whiskey Shivers, RATATAT, Givers, Victor Wooten, and Calliope Musicals are among this year’s must-see performers.
To launch the festivities, UTOPiAfest is presenting a special pre-party show tonight at Antone’s, 305 E. 5th St., starring Austin dreamy dream folk masters The Deer, Brooklyn-based band (and today’s featured band in KUTX’s Studio 1A) Big Thief, and NYC songwriter and jazz vocalist Gracie Terzian. Doors open at 8 p.m.
An excellent start to UTOPiAfest. Recommended.
