A few of the more hardcore (admiringly scrutinous) Destroyer fans might carefully pick out the different nuances in songwriter Dan Bejar‘s expansive catalogue. Yet, while Bejar’s approach sounds different on each previous recording in the Destroyer catalogue, it’s still unmistakably…Destroyer.
As if you needed prompting – the adventure continues, this time on Destroyer’s eleventh studio release, ken. Simply, ken, like an abbreviated reference to some Eddie Izzard stand-up bits. The name, however, was actually taken from the working title of the 1994 Suede release, “The Wild Ones.”
Bejar noted this album doesn’t mirror the Suede ballad’s theme of losing love, but ken carries its own alluring intensity, manipulating familiar aural aesthetics in subtle ways until they seem alien.
You have a date tonight with Destroyer at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the outside stage. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and Mega Bog starts the show. Recommended.
