We’ve Only Just Begun: Tuesday SXSW

All righty then. SXSW is in full throttle, and there’s so much going on that your head is about to explode. Need some suggestions? Your Austin Music Minute maven is here to humbly present a few showcase recommendations for your perusal, with a few bands highlighted.

All Tamara’s Parties at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 E. 6th St. – Love what my Cheer Up Charlie’s peeps have going on. Letting Up Despite Great Faults gets things underway at around 2:20 p.m. Don’t forget The Tontons at 3:40 p.m. Great line-up all around, really. The Blank Tapes, Social Studies, local peeps Dana Falconberry and Frank Smith. Swimming is on late at 1:20 a.m.

East Side Collider at Hotel Vegas, 1500 E. 6th St. – Dang. Party and-a-half with this great mix. Two stages of goodness. Hooka Hey starts the afternoon right at 2:30 p.m., while Sour Bridges kicks off at 3 p.m. Whoa. The Black and White Years at 4:30 p.m.? Sign me up. Check out The Venus Illuminato at 6 p.m. Black Bone Child completes the night at 8 p.m., What Made Milwaukee Famous at 8:30 p.m.

Red River Noise: Future of Indie at Guero’s, 1412 S. Congress Ave. – South side, yo. My homegirls The Harms play at 3:15 p.m. And one of my most favorite bands is in town for this (and other) SX gigs; Gliss is on at 4:45 p.m. Don’t miss Little Barrie at 5:30 p.m., followed by local peeps The Boxing Lesson and Megafauna. The divine and deadly Obscured By Echoes plays at 7:45 p.m.

Vivogig Shindig at Frank, 407 Colorado – My Vivogig peeps are living large with a fabulous line-up at one of my favorite haunts. They have NYC-based band Spirit Animal rounding out the night. Brooklyn duo Computer Magic, San Francisco rapper K. Flay and Harlem rapper Vinny Cha$e are on the bill, and DJ sets by LA rock/electronica band Shiny Toy Guns will work the room.

Sounds of Chile SXSW showcase at Friends, 208 E. 6th St. – Fantastic artists from Chile. You can catch Diego Peralta at 9 p.m., Caravana at 10 p.m. and We Are the Grand at 11 p.m. The music featured on today’s AMM is by Protistas, who go on at 1 a.m.

SXSW showcase at Buffalo Billiards, 201 E. 6th St. – I must show love for the local bands, as you well know. Hello Caller at 8 p.m., Lord Buffalo at 9 p.m., Seattle-based blues rock duo My Goodness at 10 p.m., Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys at 11 p.m., LA band Queen Kwong at midnight, and NYC/LA songwriter Elle King at 1 a.m.

SXSW showcase at Empire Control Room, 606 E. 7th St. – This one leaves me giddy just thinking about it. ZZ Ward expected to take the stage around 10 p.m., followed by Youngblood Hawk at 11 p.m. Holy smokes, beautiful bearded Jim James goes on at 1 a.m. I can’t help myself. It’s rather swoon-worthy, I must say.

Whew. It’s a lot. But it’s all good. Do what you can, and enjoy.
